From a very young age, I have been attached to the very idea of the movies. I’d sit in school anxious waiting to get home so I could watch Lord of the Rings, 3 Ninjas, Harry Potter, or Home Alone. So naturally, when I got to college, I started writing about film for the school’s newspaper. I soon discovered it would be wise to compile all my reviews in an online blog, and so that’s what I did!
In less than three years, I have reviewed over 100 movies on my blog and have received over 20,000 site views. It has come to the point where being a professional film critic is my dream job.
My love for movies and drive to critique them stems directly from my willingness and ability to critically analyze the messages seen in film. Sometimes movies are so shallow and empty that they have no pressing themes or hidden meaning. However, others are so deep and layered that they demand to be analyzed on multiple levels for connections to society and allusions to past and present day issues. To pick up on these, one must look past a film’s sheer entertainment value and delve into the influences of the filmmakers by actively attending to the on-screen material.
This is not something everybody does – many take a movie for what it is on the surface unless it really connects with them. Actively writing about film encourages me to look at every movie I see with a new eye so I can analyze it properly. My process involves a highly in-depth analysis of the hidden and potent messages within a film as conveyed through music, cinematography, acting, story, writing, direction, and more.
Attached is my blog for movie reviews and news. And if you feel so inclined, I encourage you to check in regularly to see what’s new and (more importantly) what I think of it!
